Benefits Of Living On A Cul-De-Sac

Posted on

As you start shopping for a home to buy, you may want to limit your search to homes that are located in subdivisions. Living in a subdivision offers a lot of benefits, but there can be some downsides to this too; however, you could always look for a house located on a cul-de-sac. Homes on cul-de-sacs offer the benefit of living near other people, yet they also offer the benefit of having less traffic. Here are three reasons choosing a house on a cul-de-sac might be right for you.

It's a dead-end street

If you look at almost any neighborhood, you will find that there are two types of roads. The first type is main roads that lead to all the other roads in the neighborhood, and the other type is dead-end streets. The dead-end streets do not lead anywhere except to the homes on the street, and a cul-de-sac is considered a dead-end street.

Living on a dead-end street has a lot of benefits for homeowners, but the main one is less traffic. People that turn down your street will typically only make that turn if they are going to one of the homes on the cul-de-sac or if they are turning around. This feature means that the road you live on is not likely to be as busy as other roads in your subdivision.

It's safer for kids

If you are looking for a house where your kids will be able to safely play outside, a home on a cul-de-sac would be ideal. Because there is less traffic, your kids will be safer playing outside. In addition, the traffic that does come down your road will be traveling slower, simply because they will have to turn around when they get to the end of the street.

It can become a close-knit community

Depending on the neighborhood you choose, a home on a cul-de-sac is likely to have very few homes on it. This is a nice feature if you really want to get close to your neighbors. It won't take long for you and your neighbors to get to know each other, to recognize each other's cars, and to take note of one another's schedules.

This feature alone may mean that your home is safer. Criminals might not be as apt to try to break into a home on a cul-de-sac, because their car might be spotted easily, and because they would have only one way out of the road.
